[KULA] Pranayama In Practice

  • Lane Yoga Custom Lane, 1 Customs Wharf EH6 6AL (map)

This KULA session will begin with a 90 minute practice led by Helen & Demelza. There will then be a short break before we come back for an afternoon of pranayama with Marit.

We shall explore the breath, and how it can help relax or recharge us depending on how we use it. Starting with a deeper understanding of how the breath works for us and our students, then looking at a few breathing techniques which we can all use during our classes, and finishing with a longer pranayama practice.

Meet Marit:
"My journey started in Rishikesh, India around 2000 with Swami Vivekananda, who I continued to study and practice with for around 7 years, completing the full program of 28 intensive months focusing on asana, pranayama, kundalini and philosophy. I then met my current teacher, Sahajananda, an advaita vedanta teacher of the Self Enquiry method of meditation. With this teacher I began to go into retreats, both guided silent group retreats and those in solitude. For several years this practice grew, and culminated in the completion of around 15 ten day guided retreats, and many more in solitude, building up to around 3 months of silence and intense meditation practice. Throughout this time I have been teaching Yoga in Scotland, and in 2010 launched the seasonal yoga academy with Julie Hanson and Sue Woodd. We have been supporting all ages, stages and abilities of people on their journey to become teachers, and yogis. My particular specialisms are breath work, meditation and philosophy, and the application of yogic tools into useful everyday support. A mum of 2, and self employed, I truly understand the stress that life can bring, and strive to help us all bring more joy into our everyday"
